About the Library

The Wofford library collections are housed in the Sandor Teszler Library, a three-level building with seating accommodations for 285 readers. In service since the fall of 1969 and named as one of the "Outstanding Buildings of the Year" by the South Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the building was dedicated in 1971 and named for Sandor Teszler, a well-known textile leader. The collections number more than 300,000 items, including books, bound journals, artifacts, and microform equivalents. The web-based Wofford Library Catalog holds the bibliographic records of Wofford College and nearby Spartanburg Methodist College. The catalog provides access to many full-text journals and 45,000 e-books. The library’s electronic services include numerous databases, indexes, and full-text resources available from the web page. Reference librarians provide regular instruction in using these resources.

Also housed in the library are the Wofford College Archives, and the records and historical materials of the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. In the Littlejohn Rare Books Room are some 10,000 volumes, including scholarly materials from the 15th through the 20th centuries. The building also includes the college’s Writing Center and a gallery with a changing schedule of exhibitions through the course of each year.

All departments of the library are under the supervision of professional librarians who are available to assist library users.
