One of the largest employers within the central city of Spartanburg, Wofford College has 311 full-time and 55 part-time employees. The human resources office in Snyder House is responsible for developing appropriate policies and procedures and managing an array of benefit programs.

During the fall term of 2007, there were 106 full-time teaching faculty members at Wofford; over 90 percent of them have earned a doctoral degree. Alumni of more than 50 different graduate schools (including Harvard, Yale, Notre Dame, and Johns Hopkins) are currently members of the Wofford community.

Wofford’s distinguished teaching awards for 2008:

Dr. Douglas A. Rayner, professor of biology, received the Roger Milliken Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Science.

Dr. Byron R. McCane, the Albert C. Outler Professor of Religion  and chair of the department, received the Phillip Stanhope Sheffield Covington Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Humanities.

Recipients of these awards receive annual stipends for up to 10 years to pursue professional development activities.
